Cheekiness is a trademark feature of almost every toddler and Miss H is no exception. In fact she is choc-full of cheek. Her smile melts hearts and she wears it generously. But it’s through her eyes that her personality shines; the intense sparkle revealing her compulsion for fun and laughter.
Two years ago I couldn’t believe my fortune at having another healthy baby girl. It was the most intense experience of my life. I wrote here about her birth and realise now that her entry into the world, independent and without help, is in perfect symmetry with how she is living her life.
My darling Miss H, you were born in a hurry. So much so you caught the midwives off guard when you crowned rather quickly in the delivery suite. You burst into the world (in perfect sync with my waters) and I thank you for your energy and assertion in the matter, as I only had to push twice to welcome you into the world and onto my chest.
From the moment we brought you home from the hospital it was obvious back stage was not for you. You demand centre stage and you have the tenacity, endurance and determination to ensure you get it!
So, my cheeky monkey, at the age of two:
You are curious, independent and determined.
You are confident, animated and articulate.
You are vibrant, funny and excited.
You are bright, bubbly and bold.
And you’ve got the endurance and fortitude of an ever-ready battery!
Slow and steady is not your thing. Fast and furious is more your gig. You’ve been in a great hurry since day one, bypassing babyhood and infancy quickly, leaving me mourning for more. You wanted to join your siblings at their level and so you crawled quickly, cruised quickly, walked quickly and talked quickly. And you’ve never been one for taking instructions or waiting for an invitation to do things. You decide when it’s time to move onto the next thing. You call the shots. I longed to breastfeed you for longer but, silly me, it wasn’t my decision to make.
So now you are two.
My darling Miss H, you light up every room you enter – your eyes blazing with untempered excitement. You don’t pause often for cuddles but I’ll let you in on a little secret. Sometimes I pretend to hurt myself just so you can “kiss it better” for me…
The highlight of my day is when you burst through my bedroom door in the morning and jump into bed with me, smothering me with “I love yous”. I know you hate my computer because it takes my attention away from you, but one day I hope you will enjoy what I have documented.
Happy Birthday Miss H!
My little ray of sunshine
