I don’t know about you but at this stage of the year, I start to feel tired. Really tired. Admittedly this year has been pretty full on, and with our house currently on the market life is pretty stressful. My domestic standards are usually pretty low so maintaining a showroom of a house is not easy. In fact it’s virtually impossible. Trying to keep an ordered and tidy house with three kids underfoot is pretty much the hardest thing I’ve had to do in my parenting tenure!! So, we decided to get out of the house and head down to my parents’ holiday house for four blissful days down at the beach. To my “sweet spot.”
I have written about my sweet spot on this blog. Growing up we spent every summer down at the beach and for me it represents everything that is good about childhood. It’s where coast meets country and the air is filled with the scent of pine and salt. It’s where I go to reset, recharge and refocus. It’s where I go to relax. It’s where I go to regift the experiences that my parents gave to me. It’s my happy place. And it’s where we gather as a family to create and connect, collecting memories. Here’s a little snapshot of my sweet spot and how we spent out mini break.
The girls found entertainment in nature; throwing stones into the sea, collecting shells, and exploring the beautiful rock pools.
And we ate well, really well.
The sun shone for days and the girls needed no gadgets, screens or toys to keep them occupied. They had their cousins, and they had nature, which meant that had entertainment on tap. And they loved every single minute of it!
The peninsula worked her magic on me and I have come away feeling fresh and ready to tackle the increasing pace of life in the lead up to the silly season….
A sweet spot may be a setting, a place, or being in the company of people who comfort you. I reckon everyone needs one; an environment that heals, restores and brings balance back into your life, and the perspective of what really matters most. Tell me, do you have a sweet spot? I’d love to hear about yours so let me know in the comments below.
